About Rob

What a difference a day makes…

Rob Norman was 15 years old and on top of the world, having gained popularity as a sophomore standout playing on his high school’s varsity football team. In the waning moments of his first big game, Rob made a crucial tackle that prevented the opponent from scoring a touchdown, and his team went on to win the game. There was only one problem: While making that game-saving tackle, Rob broke his collarbone. He went from the hero of the game to feeling like his entire purpose for living was swiped away from him.

At a time when football was his entire world, Rob was crushed. But the experience also forced him to do some soul searching, and he eventually made a life-altering realization. His true calling wasn’t to be a football star; it was to help others in any way possible. He began volunteering in a big brothers program and seeking avenues where he could make a positive impact in the community. By his senior year of high school, he was speaking in churches regularly. He eventually went on to become a pastor and earn his bachelor’s degree from Gardner-Webb University, followed by his Master of Divinity Degree.

On Common Ground

After several years as the pastor of a church in Independence, Virginia, Rob and his wife, Mickie and their two young children embarked as missionaries on a voyage that would span the next 11 years. They spent three years in Uganda, which was in the midst of a civil war, followed by eight years in Greece. The trip spawned countless memories and experiences for Rob, but the biggest lesson he learned was just how similar we all are as humans. “I saw that people everywhere have the same basic desires,” Rob says. “We all want to be loved, take care of our families and be productive.”

Anyone who knows Rob will tell you it’s no surprise he was able to relate so well with people, even halfway around the globe. Rob believes relationship building is the key to success both in life and business.
